As Vedanta the goal of Raja Yoga is liberation from ignorance through Self-knowledge. The yoga path to Self-knowledge is quieting the mind through Abhyasa (discrimination, self-discipline, and meditation) and Vairagya (detachment from Klesha or distraction and suffering). We will focus on the Niyamas as a progressive path to Self-knowledge, Concentration and self-mastery. We will examine the practical teachings of the Yoga Sutras to help guide us through the the path of Self-knowledge

In this 2 part workshop we will discuss:
-Yogas chitta vritti nirodhah – Yoga is transcendence of the dualistic mind through silencing thought.
-Self-knowledge is the only thought that does not bring suffering.
-Klesha, vasana and karma.
-Purusha and Prakriti – the Knower and the field.

Who should take this course – If you are practicing Yoga and want to see some of the connections between Yoga and Vedanta; or if you are studying Vedanta philosophy and would like to incorporate a yoga practice to support your understanding of Vedanta; or if you are interested in a philosophical overview of Raja Yoga please join us for this exploration.
